Three Leaf One of a Kind Handmade Fused Sterling Silver Flowers Pierced Earrings
These one of a kind fused pierced earrings are 9 x 9 mm and 10 x 10 mm in size. They have sterling silver posts and nuts. I used a torch to create each leaf, then solder them to sterling silver sheet and then add a post. Creating each piece is an adventure, because although I have a lot of control and experience, silver sometimes melts in unexpected ways, making each piece one of a kind.
These are made in my traditional ball and leaf style by melting small pieces of sterling silver at around 1600 degrees Fahrenheit at which time it rolls into a ball. The leaves are made by using a tool on the molten ball at the exact moment that the temperature is exactly right to create the groove. If it's too hot, it splatters; too cool it cracks....
I got really proficient at this technique because when I started in 1974, I did a lot of pierce work. It leaves a lot of scrap and you don't get much for it as scrap. I was always figuring out ways to recycle back then, because I was young and poor...
I like the rough fused look and leave the leaves pretty much as they are formed making each one unique.
